Bio

Smoked Meat Fax Machine is John Constantinides, an electronic musician, producer and DJ based in Montreal, Quebec.

He adopted the bizarre moniker when he began DJing at local clubs and loft parties in 2001, playing mainly deep funk records collected from his international crate-digging adventures. While holding down club residencies, throwing parties and making radio appearances, Constantinides began crafting his own brand of funk-drenched electronica. In the following years, his raw, often left-field style became enriched by friendly musical collaborations ranging from drumming in a post-punk band to co-producing dub and drum-n-bass tracks.

Having taken a few years to hone skills and digest trends, Constantinides raised the Smoked Meat Fax Machine banner in 2008 -this time as an artist- with the release of the "Low Mileage Lease EP" on his own label, Ancient Robot. The four-song EP is an electrofunk driven ride showcasing SMFM's taste for juicy basslines, swerving arrangements and infectious, gritty synth hooks. Satisfied with the outcome of the EP, he went ahead with the composition of his full length debut, "Slums of Heaven," released in May of 2009.

The Smoked Meat Fax Machine live show currently features Constantinides alongside band mate Doug Bishop (a.k.a. E150). Both performers rotate between stations of live instruments, analog synthesizers and laptop computers. On stage, Smoked Meat Fax Machine's compositions are typically given a heavy, manic treatment as a result of the duo's experience performing in rock, punk and electro acts.

In late 2009 Constantinides began releasing tracks in the style of skweee, a type of stripped-down funky electronic music originating in Scandinavia, under the name Fengir.
